B. Lenin, originally named Bhimsingh Lenin, is a versatile Indian film editor, writer, and director with a significant presence in Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi cinema. He hails from a cinematic background, being the son of the renowned Tamil filmmaker A. Bhimsingh. Lenin initially stepped into the film industry as an assistant editor, gaining valuable experience working on various projects. His independent editing career took off with Mahendran’s “Uthiripookkal” in 1979.
In the mid-1980s, Lenin formed a fruitful partnership with his longtime assistant, V. T. Vijayan. Together, they edited more than a hundred films across multiple Indian languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi, and even an English film titled “Eli My Friend.” Their collaboration yielded notable works, earning them several accolades, including National Film Awards for Best Editing.
Besides his accomplished editing career, Lenin ventured into filmmaking himself, directing both feature and non-feature films. His directorial debut came in 1983 with “Ethanai Konam Ethanai Parvai,” and he went on to direct four feature films and four non-feature films. His short film “Knock-out” received critical acclaim and won awards at the Cairo International Film Festival and the National Film Awards. Lenin’s work extended to television serials as well, with notable contributions like “Solladi Sivasakthi.” Additionally, he played significant roles in the film industry, such as serving as a jury member for the 57th National Film Awards and chairing the Oscar selection committee (FFI) in 2011. Currently, he is actively involved in film education, sharing his extensive industry experience as the dean of Clusters media college in Coimbatore, a reputed film institute.
