Sushin Shyam

Biography:

Sushin Shyam, born on February 13, 1992, is an Indian music composer, instrumentalist, and singer primarily known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He is also a founding member of the folk metal band The Down Troddence. Sushin gained widespread recognition for his notable contributions to films such as Varathan (2018), Kumbalangi Nights (2019), Minnal Murali (2021), Bheeshma Parvam (2022), Romancham (2023), and Kannur Squad (2023). His exceptional work on Kumbalangi Nights earned him the prestigious Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director in 2019.

In his early years, Sushin received his education at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Thalassery, and Mambaram Higher Secondary School, where he displayed his musical talent from a young age under the guidance of his musician father. Despite initially pursuing an engineering course, Sushin eventually followed his passion for music, relocating to Chennai to explore opportunities in the music industry. During his time there, he honed his skills while working with Music Director Deepak Dev for two years.

Sushin’s breakthrough as a composer came when he collaborated with Music Director Rex Vijayan, programming background scores for numerous Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films. He showcased his composition skills in the 2012 short film Oru Kutti Chodyam and later worked on the background score for Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, contributing vocals to the song “Thaazhvaram.” Encouraged by Rex, Sushin ventured into solo composition, providing the background score for Sapthamashree Thaskaraha in 2014, where he also sang the track “Kayi Ethum Doorathonde.” His subsequent projects included Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi (2015) and Kismath (2016), where his compositions were well-received by audiences.
