Biography:

On June 12, 1945, Thadiparthi Sarada was born in Tenali, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India, under the name Saraswati Devi. The agriculturalists Venkateswar Rao and Satyavathi Devi were her parents. Mohan Rao is her brother’s name. Growing up, Sarada was moved to Madras to live with her grandmother Kanakamma. Sarada recalls her grandmother as a “strict disciplinarian” who, in her later years, “wouldn’t even let the heroes touch her” and who only permitted “rehearsals on Sundays.” When Sarada was six years old, she began dancing lessons. She used to play during temple events like Dasara. She learned to dance because her mother wanted her to.

Her mother aspired for her to be a “big star in the film industry.” The notion did not particularly appeal to Sarada’s father, but he did not stop her. Actor Chalam from Telugu was married to Sarada; the union ended in divorce. Sarada is currently residing in Chennai with her brother’s family.

When she was older, she began performing in Telugu theater. Her cinematic debut was in a supporting role in the Telugu movie Kanyasulkam. After that, she went back to the theater and played a significant part in the Telugu adaptation of the Tamil drama Rakta Kanneeru. In Tamil Nadu, the drama was performed over 100 times.

She started her career as Sarada in 1959. A few other actors in the industry went by the devout name Saraswati, which was the reason for the name change.She entered into a contract with Telugu producer L.V. Prasad.Despite the fact that she was not cast in any of his films, he provided her with the professional acting instruction she needed, including the Navarasa sessions. She significantly credits this instruction for her performances and professional development. Her big break came with the critically acclaimed film Iddaru Mitrulu, starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Because of her performance in the movie, she received opportunities in Tamil and Malayalam movies as well.

Sarada’s career was forever altered in 1965 as a result of her roles in the Malayalam films Shakuntala, Murappennu, Udhyogastha by P. Venu, Kattu Thulasi, and Inapravukal.She only played a few roles in other languages after that and concentrated on Malayalam movies. Her performances in several films from 1966, including Iruttinte Athmavu, earned her recognition in 1967 in the shape of a national honorary prize.The honor was established in 1968 and served as the forerunner to the National Film Award for Best Actress. For her work in Thulabharam, she received her first National Film Award for Best Actress in 1969.
