Ohanna Shivanand

Ohanna Shivanand, previously known as Shilpa Shivanand, is an Indian model and actress recognized for her impactful television roles in the series “Dill Mill Gayye,” where she portrayed the characters of Dr. Riddhima Gupta and later, Dr. Shilpa Malhotra. Born on December 10, 1982, in South Africa to Indian parents, she pursued her schooling there before relocating to India.

In a quest for a distinct identity, Shivanand changed her name to Ohanna Shivanand in 2015, attributing it to its unique significance aligning with her astrological beliefs. She emphasized the desire for an uncommon name, citing ‘Ohanna,’ meaning “God’s precious gift or family,” as a fitting representation of her individuality.

Having attained a Master’s in Computer Applications from Panjab University, Shivanand initially delved into a career as a software developer for five years before venturing into modeling. Her modeling career soared with over 40 commercials for esteemed brands like Coca-Cola alongside Aamir Khan, Lux soap featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Dabur Pudin Hara and Nerolac Paint alongside Amitabh Bachchan.

Shivanand’s acting journey commenced in the South Indian film industry, starring in films like “Bezawada Police Station” and the Telugu movie “Vishnu” opposite Vishnu Manchu. Her Bollywood debut in 2006 with Ravi Shankar’s “Iqraar by Chance” showcased her versatility as an actress.

However, her claim to fame emerged from television, notably through the immensely popular medical drama “Dill Mill Gayye.” Her portrayal of Dr. Riddhima Gupta contributed significantly to the show’s success, making her an instant sensation. Despite her abrupt exit in 2008 due to creative differences, she returned to the series in 2010 as Dr. Shilpa Malhotra. Internal conflicts and fluctuating ratings led to her early departure from the show once again.

Shivanand’s television journey extended beyond “Dill Mill Gayye” to include appearances in BBC Production’s telefilm “Teri Me.” Her multifaceted career trajectory, encompassing modeling, films, and television, has marked her as a versatile talent within the Indian entertainment industry.
