The Sabarmati Report

Story:

The Sabarmati Report, a 2024 Hindi-language political drama film, was directed by Ranjan Chandel and scripted by Avinash and Arjun based on a story by Aseem Arrora. Dheeraj Sarna later took over as director. The movie is distributed by Zee Studios and co-produced by Vikir Films Production and Balaji Motion Pictures.

It is modeled after the Sabarmati Express train fire in Godhra on February 27, 2002. Riddhi Dogra, Raashii Khanna, and Vikrant Massey are its main actors. Critics gave The Sabarmati Report mixed reviews when it was finally released in theaters on November 15, 2024, following a number of problems and delays.

Under the auspices of Balaji Motion Pictures, Vipin Agnihotri Films, and Vikir Films Production, Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor announced the project in January 2024. It is a crime thriller with Vikrant Massey as the lead actor, who was well-known for his previous project and the critically acclaimed movie 12th Fail (2023). Ranjan Chandel is directing the movie.

Raashii Khanna was revealed as the female lead. This is her third Hindi film, following Yodha (2024) and Madras Cafe (2013), and it is her second cooperation with Massey prior to her upcoming film TME.  It was revealed that Riddhi Dogra would play another important part in the movie. The filmmakers then disclosed that the movie was based on the February 27, 2002, Godhra train burning disaster.

Through a video announcement along with the film’s release date, the producers revealed the cast, crew, and plot. Later actress Barkha Singh joined for an secured role,  later it was confirmed for an Cameo appearance to star cast opposite as Vikrant’s love interest

The CBFC had censorship concerns about it in April 2024 and suggested that a few parts be reshot. Due to modifications in the plot, the film’s creator, Ranjan Chandel, opted out of the project in July 2024, stating that he did not require any credit for it. Actor and television writer Dheeraj Sarna took Chandel’s position later in August 2024, however the premise and plotline were altered.
