TheatreStory:
Mahesh Manjrekar is the writer and director of the 2022 Indian Marathi-language crime movie Nay Varanbhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha, which is produced by Shreyans Hirawat under the auspices of NH Studioz. The movie was released in theaters on January 14, 2022.
Plot
The movie begins late at night with Digambar (also known as Digya) and Illiyas, two young teens, cornering and stabbing Gupta, a drunken guy in his forties. Digya threatens to rip Gupta’s intestines out if he doesn’t comply. After dragging him to his house at knifepoint, they force him to call Shirya and inform him that his rent receipt is ready and that he should pick it up right away because he will be departing town early. Digya murders him when the call is over.
After arriving at Gupta’s house, ecstatic to finally receive the rent receipt, Shirya and his wife Supriya are captured by Digya and Illiyas, who murder them viciously. The movie then jumps ahead four months to this event. Happy-go-lucky, Digya enjoys playing games with his friend Illiyas when he is not in school. He lives with his grandmother, whom he refers to as Baye (slang for “lady”); she is opinionated and witty despite having little formal education. She genuinely loves him but is also afraid Digya would follow in the footsteps of his father, a notorious mobster who killed multiple people before being betrayed by a close friend or relative.
Their only source of income is the boiled eggs that Baye sells, and they reside in a tenement that is quite poor. Babi, her neighbor, is sympathetic to her and is in his late sixties. He must, however, take care of his mentally ill wife and perform all of her household duties. Earlier, his only daughter and her partner had fled. She currently lives with her father, nevertheless, after her partner dumped her after he lost his job. Baye’s nephew Shirya resides with her and his wife Supriya on the stipulation that he must cover the rent and other household costs. Despite his affection for Shirya, Baye despises Supriya.
The tenement’s owner has made the decision to proceed with a renovation project in which the current tenants would receive a little unit of their own in the new construction. After hearing this, Baye’s older son Mahadev finally pays him a visit. In contrast to his brother, Mahadev has a white-collar career, is educated, and had severed all ties to his mother and brother. He now leads a comfortable life with his wife and kid, Akshu. He asks Baye for a portion of the new residence. But she chastises him and informs him that Digya is the only one who will inherit the new residence.
In the meantime, Shirya paid Rs. 2 lakh to local Corporator Gawade via a broker, Gupta, to have his name changed on the rent receipt so that he would be compensated rather than Baye. Because Baye’s mother reared him during his early years, Gawade treats him as his mother. Furthermore, Digya gained political influence and authority through his henchman, his father Sanjay. He must pay Shirya a total of 5 lakhs in exchange for moving Baye to her village house, which Shirya must remodel. Coincidentally, Baye witnesses the transaction and dies after falling to the ground during a fight with Gawade.
Gawade uses a doctor to provide a fictitious death certificate, covering up Baye’s murder as a natural death. Gawade and Mahadev make a bargain with Shirya when she passes away, whereby Gawade must give Mahadev some cash in exchange for Mahadev looking after Digya. He is abused both physically and mentally at Mahadev’s house, where he is treated like a servant. Eventually, Digya loses it and, with the assistance of his friend Illiyas, kidnaps Akshu. He then kills them both after luring Mahadev to a remote location. Due to his youth, Digya is not suspected. Digya and his aunt have a passionate sexual encounter a few days later, during which his aunt treats him as if he were her boyfriend. Digya informs his aunt one day that he and Illiyas are attending a fair. However, as the opening scene demonstrates, they murder Supriya, Shirya, and Gupta.
When Gawade discovers that Bhattya has embezzled money from him, he destroys his current goon. Bhattya becomes wasted, tells Illiyas everything while intoxicated, and claims that Gawade betrayed Digya’s father, killed Baye by accident, and will dismember Gawade the next day. Digya tells Gawade this information. Furious, Gawade follows him and murders Bhattya; Digya and Illiyas then kill him.
Digya departs from his aunt’s house the following day because he wants to get away from the city and move to his hometown with Babi and Illiyas. One day, as they are relaxing at Babi’s house, Digya tells Babi, with great pleasure, how he and Illiyas killed everyone. Babi is terrified of Digya and finds it difficult to accept this. He wakes up in the middle of the night to discover that he is alone, and his voice keeps ringing in his ears. After seeing Digya have sex with his daughter, he leaves without saying anything. He poisons Digya, Illiyas, and his daughter the following day.
