TheatreKalla is a Tamil movie released in 2018. In Mumbai’s Dharavi slum, predominantly populated by South Indian migrants, a ruthless minister named Hari Dhadha Abhayankar seeks to evict residents and seize their land. Years later, as an MP and Union Minister, Hari sets his sights on developing Dharavi’s prime location. Through government schemes and his construction company, backed by his supporter Vishnu Bhai, Hari plans to clear the slum and build luxury buildings.
Kaala, protector of Dharavi, clashes with Hari who seeks to exploit the slum. Zareena, Kaala’s former love, returns unaware of Hari’s dark intentions. Despite constant threats, Kaala resists eviction. Falsely arrested and assaulted, he loses his wife and son to Hari’s treachery, vowing revenge for their tragic deaths. Faced with Hari’s intimidation, Kaala rallies Dharavi residents to protest the government’s scheme. Their social media campaign forces the State government to cancel Hari’s “Clean Mumbai Initiative” within two weeks. Humiliated, Hari imposes a curfew on Dharavi, leading a raid with police and his henchman. Kaala, Lenin, Puyal, and Vaaliyappan fight back, leaving the police believing Kaala is dead in a burning chawl.
Pankaj’s arrest, fueled by Praveen’s video exposé of police brutality, reveals Hari’s role in the Dharavi chaos. Despite media reports of Kaala’s death, the residents remain unconvinced. At a construction event, Hari’s haunting visions of Kaala trigger a public outburst, leading to his death in a riot. The government, faced with Dharavi’s united resistance, abandons the project. Inspired by Dharavi’s success, other slums rise up, employing Kaala’s methods to protect their communities, regardless of land ownership.
