Story:

Released in 2023, the Tamil-language psychological action thriller “Iraivan” is a cinematic venture directed by I. Ahmed and produced by Sudhan Sundaram and G. Jayaram under Passion Studios.

The film boasts a stellar cast, featuring Jayam Ravi, Nayanthara, Vinoth Kishan, and Rahul Bose in lead roles, with supporting performances by Vijayalakshmi, Narain, Ashish Vidyarthi, Azhagam Perumal, and Bagavathi Perumal.

The project, initially unveiled in March 2022 without a title, embarked on principal photography the same month, concluding its production journey by November. The soundtrack, crafted by Yuvan Shankar Raja, is complemented by the visual expertise of Hari K. Vedantam in cinematography and J. V. Manikanda Balaji in the editing department.

“Iraivan” delves into the gripping tale of Arjun, an Assistant Commissioner of Police renowned for his unconventional methods. The narrative unfolds amidst personal trials and a city gripped by the terror of the “Smile-Killer,” a psychopathic murderer who leaves smiley face notes at crime scenes.

Arjun and his colleague, Andrew, are tasked with unraveling the complexities of this chilling case. The film navigates through the tragic loss of Andrew, a resurgence of the Smile-Killer, and a series of unexpected twists, including a prison escape and the emergence of a copycat killer.

Jayam Ravi’s portrayal of Arjun leads the audience through unorthodox investigative methods, psychological depth, and a gripping climax involving a hostage situation.

“Iraivan,” released on September 28, 2023, received a mixed-to-negative reception from critics. However, its intricate plot, unforeseen twists, and exploration of justice, sacrifice, and the intricate balance between good and evil contribute to the film’s captivating narrative and leave a lasting impact on the audience.
