TheatreGatha Vaibhava, Kannada director SuNi’s most ambitious production to date, will be released in theatres on November 14. SuNi has teamed Ashika Ranganath, who previously starred in both of his Avatara Purusha films, with rookie Dushyanth as the lead actor. This time, the director is telling a tale of love that spans multiple eras and worlds, including Devaloka, Vasco Da Gama’s period, and the present. It looks at the primary couple’s prior lives and a seemingly hopeless love—or is it?
When I initially heard the script, I thought SuNi sir was getting better. Yes, it bears Gatha Vaibhava’s signature, yet he has undoubtedly tried something different. I was impressed by the fact that I had never heard of a story like this before, and it seemed fresh. I thought that would be a terrific role to do, and it would be really fulfilling for me as an actor. Ashika explains, “I play four roles in this story, which will give audiences the impression of watching four films in one.”
The actress goes on to say that she was particularly drawn to Gatha Vaibhava because, although it adheres to the trend of historical films having the scene’s flavour, it also integrates the story with contemporary elements. “I knew I had to do Gatha Vaibhava as soon as I heard the story,” she continues. This is also the reason Ashika believes she is still as enthusiastic about the movie as she was on Day 1, over 4 years after they started the project and are now finally releasing it in theatres.
