TheatreDorasaani, a 2019 Telugu-language romantic drama film directed by KVR Mahendra, stars debutantes Shivathmika Rajashekar and Anand Devarakond. At the start of the film, naxalite Shankaranna is released from prison after serving thirty years of false imprisonment. While in a village, he inquires about Raju from the residents. However, no one appears to be aware of him. Shankar surveys his transformed village. The man he encounters later claims to know Raju. He claims to know Shankaranna and goes by the name Siddadu, the former go-between for Raja Reddy, the dora. The story goes back to the 1980s.
Raju is a painter from rural Telangana who comes from a lower caste. Devaki is Raja Reddy’s dora’s daughter, or dorasaani. Devaki, imprisoned in her own bungalow, longs to be free to freely engage with the villagers. Her father and Dasi, the domestic maid, take great care of her since she is motherless. At a festival, Raju meets Devaki and instantly falls in love. He begins to see her from outside the bungalow through her window. Eventually, Raju dons a disguise to go explore the village with Devaki, being cautious not to let her father and his goons know she is there.
