Batwara 1947

Story:

Aamir Khan, through Aamir Khan Productions, is the producer of the upcoming Hindi-language history drama film Batwara 1947 (translated as Partition 1947), which is co-written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur star in the film, which is set against the backdrop of India’s 1947 partition.

“Experiencing Lahore is so fundamental to a fulfilling life that not seeing it is akin to not truly living or being born” is an old Punjabi proverb that is borrowed in the title of the film, which is based on Asghar Wajahat’s drama Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai.

The main photography was finished in October 2025, having started in February 2024.Santosh Sivan is in charge of the cinematography. Javed Akhtar wrote the lyrics, while A. R. Rahman created the soundtrack.  Batwara 1947 was supposed to be released on January 23, 2025, but post-production work caused a delay. The release date is set for August 14, 2026, which falls on the weekend of Independence Day.
