Bimbisara

Story:

“Bimbisara” is a 2022 Indian Telugu-language fantasy action film directed by debutant Mallidi Vassishta and produced by N. T. R. Arts. The story revolves around King Bimbisara of the Trigarta Kingdom in the 5th century BC, who time-travels to the modern world after receiving a magical mirror from a freed demon. In the present, Subramanya Shastri, the son of a man who sought Bimbisara’s treasure, aspires to unlock it.

In the past, Bimbisara is portrayed as a ruthless ruler who conquers at will and possesses a mirror from the same cave as the wanderer. He ends up swapping places with his twin brother, Devadutta, who pushes him into the magical mirror. Bimbisara lands unconsciously in modern-day Hyderabad in 2022, where he struggles to adapt to the unfamiliar world. He is discovered by SI Vyjayanthi and constable Prasadam and eventually befriends a girl who resembles someone he had killed in the past.

The plot takes a twist when Shastri and his men, aware of Bimbisara’s arrival, kidnap the girl, using her as leverage to force Bimbisara to open the treasure and save her life. As famine plagues Trigartala, Devadutta reveals himself and aims to open the treasure. However, Bimbisara’s loyal confidant Zubeda intervenes to alert Bimbisara about a treasonous plot by Commander Bagheera. Bimbisara and Zubeda travel back to the past to thwart the betrayal. The film culminates with a sacrifice by Bimbisara to save the girl’s life and restore his kingdom, before returning to the modern world, where he meets a tragic end.
