Vara Mullapudi

Biography:

Mullapudi Vara is a Telugu film director. He is the son of great veteran writer Mullapudi Venkata Ramana. At first, Vara wanted to become a pilot. But due to a tough competition, he couldn’t fulfill that dream. He went to California for his higher studies. His father used to like the poetry that Vara wrote.

He then joined Bapu, a Telugu film director and started working with him. He became an assistant director to the Telugu director of films, Bapu. His debut movie was Srinadh Kavi Sarvabhowma. It was a movie by Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, also known as N. T. Rama Rao or NTR. He played the role of Kavi Sarvabhowma in the movie. Vara has also worked in Primary Schools giving lessons to the students that were initiated by NTR when he was running the government. He has worked under Bapu and Mr. Pellam, Rambantu, and Pelli Koduku. He worked on the TV series, Bhagavatam. It was a project under Bapu. He worked on this project for two years. For the Janmabhoomi Program, Vara has worked on commercials and TV ads. He has done almost 100 ads along with his team.

He worked during the elections and campaigns held for the TDP government. He worked for K. Raghavendra Rao in his TV series called Raghavendra Swamy. Rajamouli started working with Raghavendra Rao, and they were in need of another director for the show Santhi Nivasam. Mullapudi Vara joined the team and started working on the project. Rajamouli offered him to direct the Kannada version of Anandam, a Telugu super hit. He did the work, and Ananda got released which went on to become a superhit and ran in the theaters for 50 days.

After that, he did a few TV serials. He directed the movie Naa Alludu. It got negative reviews. It didn’t accomplish the expectations since it was NTR movie. After doing Naa Alludi, Vara took a long break. Her sister, who is a copyright in the US, started outsourcing ads to Vara that he shot in India and sent them back. He got a tremendous response by doing so.

While Vara was on a hiatus, he wrote about 15 stories and then went to producers to narrate the story. He cast Rajiv Kanakala with Naresh in the new venture. Rajiv Kanakala helped him to get the producers, and the direction of the movie started. It was a successful movie. The title of the movie was Visakha Express that was suggested by NTR. He is busy doing commercials and TV ads presently.
