Vaani Kapoor

Biography:

Indian actress Vaani Kapoor, who debuted on August 23, 1988, performs in Hindi-language movies. With the romantic comedy Shuddh Desi Romance, she made her acting debut and was honored with the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Kapoor took a three-year break from acting after receiving negative reviews for her roles in the Tamil movies Befikre (2016) and Aaha Kalyanam (2014). Since then, she has appeared in action movies like War (2019) in supporting roles as the love interest and received recognition for her portrayal of a transgender lady in the romantic comedy Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021).

Kapoor was born into a Punjabi Hindu household in Delhi, India. Kapoor’s mother Dimpy Kapoor is a former teacher who now works in marketing, and her father Shiv Kapoor owns a business that exports furniture. She attended Mata Jai Kaur Public School in Ashok Vihar, North West Delhi, for her education. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in tourism studies from the Indira Gandhi National Open University in Maidan Garhi, she began working for the ITC Hotel and afterwards completed an internship with Oberoi Hotels & Resorts in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Elite Model Management signed her for modeling jobs.

Kapoor signed a three film deal with Yash Raj Films to launch her career in the Hindi film industry. She was chosen through an audition to join Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra in the romantic comedy Shuddh Desi Romance in a supporting role. The movie, which dealt with live-in relationships, was well-received by critics, and Kapoor’s performance of Tara, an outspoken girl, was praised. Kapoor was described as “a pleasant debutant though she isn’t an overtly powerful actress” by Mohar Basu of Koimoi, and as “impressive, pretty, and commands a good screen-presence” by Madhureeta Mukherjee of The Times Of India. Shuddh Desi Romance became a commercial success after earning 76 crore rupees ($9.8 million) at the global box office. At the 59th Filmfare Awards, Kapoor was awarded with the Best Female Debut award.
