An Indian actor named Upendra Limaye (born on November 8, 1969) got the National Film Award for his performance in the Marathi movie Jogwa. In its list of the “25 Greatest Acting Performances of Indian Cinema” published in April 2013 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Indian cinema, Forbes listed Limaye’s work in the movie Jogwa.
He has performed in a number of experimental plays, parallel Marathi movies, television shows, mainstream Hindi movies, and a few South Indian productions. Director Madhur Bhandarkar, Ram Gopal Verma, Amol Palekar, Rajiv Patil, Jabbar Patel, Satish Alekar, Vinay Apte, Waman Kendre, Chandrakant Kulkarni, Anant Mahadevan, Karupaniannan, and others are among the well-known stage and film directors with whom he has collaborated.
He became the first Marathi actor to be honored after his work in the movie Jogva won him the Best Male Actor prize at the 56th National Film Awards in 2010. In addition to “Jogwa,” he has also acted in a number of films that have won national awards, including “Mukta,” “Bangarwadi,” “Sarkarnama,” “Dhyasparva,” “Chandni Bar,” “Page 3,” and “Traffic Signal,” to name a few.
