Tarun Gopi is an Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter who was born on April 10. Thimiru (2006), his maiden film as a director, went on to become one of the highest grossing Tamil movies of the year. Later on, he tried his hand at acting, although he has since placed acting employment behind directing responsibilities.
Tarun Gopi was raised in Madurai after being born in Gudalur, in Tamil Nadu’s Theni District. Tarun Gopi completed his education at the Government Higher Secondary School before enrolling at Madurai Kamaraj University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He began working as an assistant director shortly after graduating from college, serving as an apprentice under directors Sakthi Chidambaram and Upendra.
In the masala movie Thimiru (2006), which starred Vishal in the lead role, Tarun Gopi made his screen debut. It took him multiple rounds of negotiations to convince actress Sriya Reddy to play a villainous role, but once he did, the casting won praise after the film’s release.
Positive reviews greeted the movie when it debuted in August 2006; one reviewer from The Hindu noted that “Gopi’s packaging and treatment make Thimiru engaging”. Following Thimiru’s tremendous box office success, Tarun Gopi started pre-production on a second script starring Madhavan; however, he eventually abandoned the project.
His subsequent project, Kaalai (2008), starring Silambarasan and Vedhicka, was critically and commercially poorly received. Tarun and Silambarasan had a falling out during filming the movie, and there are rumors that they got into a fight at the shooting site.
Additionally in 2007, he declared that he will work on a bilingual film called Nee Oda Naan Thuratha, starring Prabhas, Lekha Washington, Ravi Krishna, and Nila, and that he would play the antagonist in Silambarasan’s directorial debut, Kettavan. But the later initiative never happened, and the former was abandoned after just one schedule.
Subsequently, Tarun Gopi established his own production company and started working on his side project, Kaatupaiya, in which he would act as the main character. After struggling to keep up the project after failing to cast Reemma Sen as the lead, he took an offer to appear in and make his acting debut in Rasu Madhuravan’s Mayandi Kudumbathar (2009), a film co-directed by nine other directors.
Tarun Gopi later intended to helm the 2009 Tamil adaptation of Ullasamga Utsahamga, the popular Telugu movie, but the project was never successful. A better source is required During the same period, he also starred in two films, neither of which had a theatrical release: Ennai Etho Seithu Vittai, opposite Saranya Mohan, and Jeeva Poonga, directed by Azhagappan. Similarly, in 2010, he collaborated with Saranya Nag on two multi-star films, Gnani and Saravana Kudil, none of which saw its completion.
In the years that followed, he costarred with Karan in other unreleased movies including Pechiyakka Marumagan by Balamurugan and Kanniyum Kaalaiyum Sema Kadhal by Vadivudaiyaan. He also publicly apologized to the actors he had offended in the past. He finished filming Veri in 2015; it was a lower-budget follow-up to Thimiru, but it had a different cast, including Sandhya, Ramana, and him. He announced that he will resume directing instead of acting and that he was frustrated that several of his films were still unpublished at the audio launch ceremony for the movie.
