Suresh Ishwar Wadkar, born on August 7, 1955, is a prominent Indian playback singer renowned for his contributions to Hindi and Marathi cinema. His musical journey began in Kolhapur, in a modest family background, where his father worked in the cloth mills and his mother prepared food for mill workers.
From a young age, Wadkar displayed a passion for wrestling and frequented gyms with his father. However, his musical talent was recognized early, leading him to pursue the “Prabhakar” certificate from Prayag Sangit Samiti, equivalent to a BEd degree, thus allowing him to teach music professionally.
His singing career took off when he participated in the Sur-Singar competition in 1976, winning the contest judged by eminent composers from the Indian film industry. This opened doors for him in playback singing, with his debut song “Sona Kare Jhilmil Jhilmil Vrishti Pade Tapur Tupur” composed by Ravindra Jain for the film “Paheli” (1977).
