In Telangana’s Karimnagar district’s Machanapalli hamlet, Reddy was born and raised. Reddy, who comes from a wealthy family, is the fourth of six kids. Veera Reddy, his father, served as the village sarpanch. Surender Reddy dropped out of college and relocated to Hyderabad to start a career in film.
He began his career as an assistant director on the 1999 film Preminchedi Endukamma. With the Nandamuri Kalyan Ram-starring film Athanokkade, he made his directorial debut. He then helmed the 2006 film Ashok, which starred Jr. NTR and Sameera Reddy.
His well-known movies are Race Gurram, starring Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan, and Kick, starring Ravi Teja and Ileana D’Cruz. With the exception of Athanokkade, Vakkantham Vamsi wrote the stories for all the movies he directed.
Reddy once again collaborated with Teja to direct Kick 2 in 2015.The movie had Teja’s highest opening day take of almost 6 crore.
In 2005 film Athanokkade, which received the Nandi Award for Best First Film of a Director, he made his directorial debut. Kick (2009), Oosaravelli (2011), Race Gurram (2014), Dhruva (2016), and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019) are just a few of the movies he went on to direct. For Race Gurram, he received the SIIMA Award for Best Telugu Director.
