Indian actress Shweta Basu Prasad was born on January 11, 1991. She is well-known for her work in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and television. For her work in Makdee (2002), she received the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. With the success of Kotha Bangaru Lokam (2008), The Tashkent Files (2019), Serious Men (2020), Criminal Justice (Season 3, 2022), India Lockdown (2022), and Jubilee (2023), she made the leap to adult roles after Iqbal (2005).
Shweta has also worked in Telugu, Tamil and Bengali language films. She made a documentary on Indian classical music, and has produced and written for short films. She made her directoral debut with the short film Retake in 2023.
Jamshedpur, Bihar (now in Jharkhand), is where Shweta Prasad was born. When she was a little child, her family moved to Mumbai. Her mother’s maiden name is Basu, while her father’s last name is Prasad. In her earlier movies, she was given the name Shweta Prasad; later, she changed her screen name to include her mother’s maiden name.
At the R. N. Podar High School in Santacruz, Mumbai, Shweta studied commerce before earning her diploma in journalism and mass communication. She has contributed to The Indian Express’s columns.
In 2002, Shweta appeared in Makdee in a dual part for which she won the National Award for Best Child Actress. The television shows Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Karishma Kaa Karishma then made her proposals. She was offered the character of “Khadija” in the 2005 film Iqbal by director Nagesh Kukunoor, and as a result, she rose to fame. At the fifth Karachi International Film Festival, she took home the Best Supporting Actress trophy for Iqbal.
