Sharon Joseph, born on 17 July 1989, is a versatile Indian playback singer and lyricist hailing from Kerala. Known for her proficiency in six languages—Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, and English—Sharon has made significant contributions to the music industry. She embarked on her playback singing career with the Malayalam film “Hangover” in 2014.
Sharon was born into a Roman Catholic Syrian Christian family in Kottayam, Kerala, but she was brought up in Pune, Maharashtra. Her musical journey began early, as she started learning Carnatic music at the age of 4 under the guidance of Mrs. Meenakshi Subramanian. In 2013, she married Dr. Joseph George, the Head of the Department – Commerce at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. The couple has a daughter named Rebecca, and they are currently settled in Kochi, Kerala.
Before dedicating herself to a full-time music career, Sharon worked in Pune with Suzlon. Holding a postgraduate degree in Business Administration, she made her debut as a playback singer in 2014 with the song “Vellithingal,” a duet alongside Najim Arshad, in the Malayalam film “Hangover,” directed by Sreejith Sukumaran and featuring music by Mejo Joseph.
Apart from playback singing, Sharon is a talented lyricist and vocalist for various ad films in Malayalam, Hindi, and English. Her musical journey began at the age of 10 when she contributed to her first Christian devotional album.
Sharon made her debut as a lyricist in Hindi with the song “Pala Naalaayi” for Priyadarshan’s film “Oppam” (2016), starring Mohanlal. Additionally, she lent her vocals for the same song. In the same year, she collaborated with the legendary K. J. Yesudas for the duet “Sisira Vaanil” in the movie “Chinna Dada.”
