Sharman Joshi is an Indian actor and television host primarily recognized for his work in Hindi cinema. He gained prominence for his performances in movies like Rang De Basanti (2006), Golmaal (2006), Dhol (2007), and 3 Idiots (2009).
Joshi has an extensive background in theater, having acted in, produced, and directed stage plays in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati languages. Notably, he directed and starred in various theater productions, including a Gujarati adaptation of the popular play All the Best, which ran for over 550 shows in three years. Another notable work includes his role in the comedy play “Ame Layi Gaya, Tame Rahi Gaya,” where he portrayed four different characters. In 2016, he ventured into direction with the Hindi romantic-comedy Main Aur Tum, where he also played the lead alongside Tejashree Pradhan.
His film journey began with the 1999 art film Godmother, followed by films like Style (2001), Xcuse Me (2003), and Shaadi No. 1 (2005). He gained critical acclaim with his roles in Rang De Basanti (2006) and Golmaal (2006). Subsequently, he appeared in a range of films including Life in a… Metro, Dhol, Raqeeb, Hello, Sorry Bhai!, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Hate Story 3 & 4, 1920 London and Wajah Tum Ho. He notably portrayed Raju Rastogi in the blockbuster 3 Idiots (2009). Joshi also made his mark in the digital space with his debut in the web series Baarish (2019) produced by Balaji Telefilms.
In addition to his acting career, Joshi hosted the game show PokerFace: Dil Sachcha Chehra Jhootha on Real T.V. in 2009. He has been recognized with the life membership of the International Film and Television Club of the Asian Academy of Film & Television. Joshi has spoken about being typecast in his career at a TEDx conference in Mumbai in January 2017.
Born on 28 April 1974 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Sharman Joshi married Prerana Chopra, daughter of actor Prem Chopra, on 15 June 2000, at the age of 26. The couple is blessed with three children, Khyana Joshi, and twins Vaaryan and Vihaan Joshi.
