S. Thirunavukarasu (born 21 July 1966), also known by his stage name Tirru, is an Indian cinematographer who has produced films throughout India in a variety of languages. For 24 (2016), he received the National Film Award for Best Cinematography.
In the village of Mullukuruchi, he was born. While attending college and studying physics, he developed an interest in photography. He helped his cousin, a dentist by trade, pursue his love of wildlife photography. In Chennai, he is wed to an architect, and together they have two children.
He has previously assisted director of photography P. C. Sreeram. Hindi, Tamil, and Malayalam are the three main languages used in Tirru’s films. Together with the director Major Ravi, he co-wrote the screenplay for the Malayalam movie Mission 90 Days. Having filmed more than a thousand television ads in the previous 15 years, he is also well-known for them. He has collaborated with nearly all of India’s top production companies for advertising.
