Gowtham Sundararajan, an Indian actor and choreographer, has a rich career in the Tamil film industry as well as television dramas. Born to Tamil actor Major Sundarrajan and Shyamala in Madras, Tamil Nadu, he embarked on his journey to the film industry after completing his education at Vivekananda College in 1989. Initially, he gained recognition through appearances in item numbers and projects like K. Balachander’s “Azhagan” (1990). In September 1996, he tied the knot with Kokila Hariram. Notably, in 1998, Gowtham and his wife co-founded the Academy of Modern Dance, which became Chennai’s first formal Western dance school. They also ventured into choreography for films, with their most significant project being Kamal Haasan’s “Aalavandhan” (2001), showcasing their dance skills.
Gowtham transitioned into acting, securing roles such as one of Tamizhselvan’s aides in Mani Ratnam’s “Iruvar” (1997). Although he predominantly appeared in films directed by Sundar C. and Arjun Sarja, his pursuit of a leading actor career in films faced challenges. This led him to explore opportunities in television, where he took on supporting roles. Additionally, he ventured into film production alongside Sundar C., co-producing “Ainthaam Padai” (2009). In 2016, he took on his first directorial project, “Kannula Kaasa Kattappa,” starring actors like Aravind Akash, Ashwathy Warrier, and Chandini Tamilarasan.
