Biography:
Philip Seymour Hoffman was a well-known American actor and director, famous for his intense performances that included playing complex and complicated characters. He was born on July 23, 1967, in Fairport, New York. He acted in theatre productions and later became famous for independent and commercial movies. The movies that made him a name include Boogie Nights (1997), The Big Lebowski (1998), Magnolia (1999) and Almost Famous (2000). Hoffman became famous for his supporting acts that required him to change dramatically both physically and mentally. Apart from movies, he was also involved in theatre productions.
The most memorable role that Hoffman played is that of Truman Capote in the movie Capote (2005) that won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. Other roles where he performed with praise included the movies Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead (2007), Doubt (2008), The Master (2012) and the Hunger Games movie series. In addition to winning one Academy Award, Hoffman also got nominated for Charlie Wilson’s War, Doubt and The Master. Hoffman also directed one movie called Jack Goes Boating (2010). He died on February 2, 2014, at the age of 46.
