Nedumudi Venu, born Kesavan Venugopal on 22 May 1948, was a highly esteemed Indian actor and screenwriter hailing from Kerala, renowned for his significant contributions to Malayalam cinema.
Over a prolific career spanning nearly five decades, he left an indelible mark, acting in over 500 films, predominantly in Malayalam and also making notable appearances in Tamil cinema. Venu’s artistic versatility extended to screenwriting, and he even directed one film, showcasing his multifaceted talent.
Born to P. K. Kesava Pillai, a schoolmaster, and P. Kunjikkuttiyamma, Venu received his primary education from NSS Higher Secondary School in Nedumudi and St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School in Champakulam.
In addition to his cinematic accomplishments, Nedumudi Venu garnered immense recognition for his writing skills, earning three National Film Awards and six Kerala State Film Awards for various stellar performances.
Married to T. R. Susheela, Venu shared his life with two sons, Unni and Kannan. Tragically, the esteemed actor passed away on 11 October 2021, at the age of 73, at KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Battling liver cancer and complicated by post COVID-19 complications, coupled with diabetes, Venu’s health struggles came to an end.
His final resting place was at the Santhikavadam Crematorium in Thiruvananthapuram, where he received full state honors during his cremation on 12 October 2021. The cinematic world bid farewell to a stalwart whose impact and legacy continue to resonate in the hearts of his admirers.
