Indian author Narayan Dharap (August 27, 1925–August 18, 2008) wrote mostly Marathi horror novels. He was the first Marathi writer to introduce H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos to Marathi audiences, and he authored over 100 works. In addition, he wrote drama and science fiction.
After graduating from Mumbai University with a B.Sc. in Chemistry, Dharap spent some time working in Africa. He had lung ailment for a while and passed away in Pune on August 18, 2008, from pneumonia.
Samartha, Appa Joshi, Krishnachandra, Pant, and Jaidev are the primary characters that frequently appear in his stories or novels. There are also a variety of stories about solitary heroes or heroines who, sometimes with a little outside assistance, sometimes without it, triumph over a predicament. The majority of his tales depict a major conflict between good and evil, with good typically emerging victorious. Marathi culture is also the source of Dharap’s tales. “A victory of good over evil,” “origination of the concepts in the book from Marathi culture,” and “keeping the story away from any kind of sexual references (which is considered an important factor in any “popular” horror or suspense literature)” are some of the common traits of Dharap’s works.
