Biography:

Mumtaj is a former Indian actress who gained recognition primarily in the Tamil film industry but has also appeared in Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu films. She entered the film world through the Tamil movie “Monisha En Monalisa” in 1999, directed by T. Rajender. She quickly rose to fame with glamorous roles in films like “Kushi” (2000), “Looty” (2001), and “Chocolate” (2001). Mumtaj’s popularity soared in the 2000s, where she appeared in several successful films, including “Gemini” (2002), “Three Roses” (2003), “Chellame” (2004), “London” (2005), “Jerry” (2006), “Veerasamy” (2007), and “Rajadhi Raja” (2009).

Mumtaj’s journey into acting began when film producer Sudhakar Bokade noticed her during a dance program at Mount Mary School in Mumbai. He offered her a film project, but it was delayed due to various reasons. Eventually, she was cast in the lead role in the Tamil film “Monisha En Monalisa” in 1999. Her career saw a significant boost after her appearance in the song “Kattipudi Kattipudida” in S. J. Surya’s “Kushi” (2000), which led to more film offers.

Although she initially gained recognition for her song sequences, Mumtaj aimed to diversify her career with performance-oriented roles. In 2003, she produced and acted in “Thathi Thavadhu Manasu,” but the film faced challenges at the box office. Despite a brief hiatus from acting, she made appearances in films like “Jerry” (2006), “Veerasamy,” and “Rajadhi Raja” (2009). However, some of her projects during this period did not see the light of day.

Apart from her acting career, Mumtaj served as a judge in the reality dance competition “Boys Vs Girls” and participated as a contestant in the Tamil reality show “Bigg Boss Tamil 2,” which marked her final appearance in the industry before her retirement in 2018.
