Mallemala Sundara Rami Reddy, commonly known as M. S. Reddy or Mallemala, was a prominent figure in the Telugu cinema industry. He was born on August 15, 1924, in Alimili, near Nellore, and passed away on December 11, 2011, at the age of 87 at his residence in Film Nagar, Hyderabad. M. S. Reddy was a versatile individual who made significant contributions as a film producer, director, screenwriter, lyricist, and writer in Telugu cinema. He was also known for his literary work in the Telugu language.
In addition to his film-related roles, M. S. Reddy held various important positions within the industry. He served as the President of the Telugu Film Producers Council, the South Indian Film Writers Association, and the Film Nagar Co-operative Housing Society. Moreover, he held the position of Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Film Development Corporation. His contributions to the film industry were acknowledged with two Nandi Awards.
M. S. Reddy initially started his career by establishing a photographic studio in Chennai. His journey in the film world began with the dubbed version of “Kanne Pilla” in 1966, and he made his debut as a producer with the film “Bharya” in 1968. Over the years, he produced numerous other movies, including “Srikrishna Vijayam” (1971), “Ooriki Upakari” (1972), “Kodenaagu” (1974), “Ramayya Thandri” (1974), “Doralu Dongalu” (1976), “Mutayala Pallaki” (1977), “Naidu Bava” (1978), “Thathayya Premaleelalu” (1980), “Eklavya” (1982), “Kalyana Veena” (1983), “Palnati Simham” (1985), “O Prema Katha” (1986), “Aahuthi” (1987), “Ankusam” (1989), “Ammoru” (1995), and “Ramayanam” (1997).
Beyond his involvement in the film industry, M. S. Reddy was a social activist with Gandhian principles and beliefs. Notably, Telugu film producer Shyam Prasad Reddy is his son.
