Louis Leterrier (born June 17, 1973) is a French film and television director best known for his work in high-energy action films. His credits include The Transporter (2002), Transporter 2 (2005), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Clash of the Titans (2010), Now You See Me (2013), and two installments of the Fast & Furious franchise, Fast X (2023) and its sequel set for 2027. On television, he has directed notable series such as The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019) and Lupin (2021).
Leterrier began his career in 1997 as an assistant to Jean-Pierre Jeunet on Alien Resurrection. After returning to France, he worked with Luc Besson on commercials for Club Internet and L’Oréal, as well as on Joan of Arc (1999). He later served as second assistant director on Alain Chabat’s Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre (2002).
That same year, he directed The Transporter, starring Jason Statham. While the U.S. release credited Corey Yuen as director and Leterrier as artistic director, the European version listed Leterrier as director and Yuen as action director. Following this, he became part of Luc Besson’s circle of filmmakers, directing Jet Li in Unleashed (2004) and later helming Transporter 2 (2005).
In 2008, Leterrier was among several French directors recruited to Hollywood, where he directed Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk. Two years later, he directed Warner Bros.’ remake of Clash of the Titans (2010), originally hoping to develop it into a franchise, though he did not return for the sequel.
Leterrier continued to diversify his projects, directing the magician heist film Now You See Me (2013) and the spy comedy Grimsby (2016), starring Sacha Baron Cohen. He was briefly attached to direct the shark thriller In the Deep for Sony, but exited due to creative differences and budget disputes.
On television, he achieved critical acclaim by directing all ten episodes of Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (2019), followed by work on the hit French series Lupin (2021). In 2022, he stepped in to direct Fast X after Justin Lin’s departure, later confirmed to direct the eleventh installment of the long-running franchise.
