Richa Chadha, an Indian actress, producer, and political activist who works in Hindi film, was born on December 18, 1986. Chadha’s breakthrough came in 2012 with a supporting role in the noir gangster saga Gangs of Wasseypur, where her performance as the belligerent and foul-mouthed wife of a gangster earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics). Chadha made her acting debut in a small role in the comedy film Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! in 2008.
Chadha made her acting debut in the drama Masaan (2015) as a leading lady.
She appeared in Part 1 of the criminal drama Gangs of Wasseypur, directed by Anurag Kashyap, in 2012. She said in an interview that playing Nagma Khatoon paved the way for her to acquire 11 film parts. The 65th Cannes Film Festival hosted the movie’s world premiere. She returned to the role of Nagma Khatoon in the second installment of Gangs of Wasseypur. With its precursor, the movie had its world debut during the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. In the coming-of-age comedy Fukrey, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, Chadha’s first release of 2013 was as a tough-talking female don Bholi Punjaban. Then she made an appearance in the “Epilogue” portion of the Anurag Kashyap-produced anthology film Shorts. A dysfunctional couple who appear to be deeply unhappy with one another is portrayed by Chadha and Shirvastav.
The drama film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and based on the Shakespearean tragedy Romeo and Juliet, featured Chadha in a minor role as Rasila. For her work in the movie, she was nominated for an IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress. After that, Chadha played the criminal Babu in the 2014 film Tamanchey, which was directed by Navneet Behal. The 71st Venice International Film Festival aired it out of competition. She encouraged other women to come forward with their own eating and mental disorders, which were also caused by patriarchy, misogyny, and the prevalence of the “male gaze” in the entertainment industry.
