Ilancheran, widely recognized as Lollu Sabha Maaran, is a prominent Indian actor and comedian renowned for his contributions to Tamil films. His journey to fame began with his notable presence on the television show Comedy Bazaar, broadcasted on Jaya TV. Born into the family of Mani, a political orator affiliated with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Ilancheran underwent a significant transformation, adopting the name Maaran as he ventured into his career.
Initially drawn to communist art, he even painted works reflecting this ideology, causing some tension within his family due to ideological differences. Ilancheran commenced his professional journey as an art director for television programs. His breakthrough came when he secured acting roles in Comedy Bazaar and Lollu Sabha, marking the beginning of his illustrious career in television.
He explored the realm of art direction before stepping into the vibrant world of television comedy. Following his successful stint in television, Ilancheran made his initial foray into films with a supporting role in Student Number 1. The television comedy shows Lollu Sabha and Comedy Bazaar catapulted him to fame, setting the stage for his subsequent ventures as a comedian in numerous films.
In 2014, Ilancheran took on the role of director with the film Iraimagan, following his appearance in Rendavathu Padam. However, financial challenges led him to seek assistance from his friend Santhanam for a producer referral. Although Iraimagan faced a setback, he contributed to the improvement of dialogues in the debut film Inimey Ippadithan directed by the Lollu Sabha duo Muruganand.
Continuing his cinematic journey, Ilancheran collaborated with Mahendran Rajamani in the director’s debut film Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal in 2016. Apart from his acting role, he showcased his versatility by contributing lyrics for a song. This collaboration marked another milestone in his career. In 2021, Ilancheran faced both criticism and praise with the release of Dikkiloona on ZEE5.
While the film received mixed reviews, his dialogues garnered acclaim. Undeterred, he went on to secure roles in subsequent films such as Naai Sekar, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, J Baby, and Naai Sekar Returns. Expanding his horizons, Ilancheran ventured into Telugu cinema with a Tamil-Telugu bilingual film, marking a significant milestone in his diverse acting career.
In May 2021, Ilancheran faced an unexpected challenge when a misinformation incident occurred due to the unfortunate passing of actor Manimaran from a coronavirus infection. Misleading media posts prompted him to clarify his well-being through a video, emphasizing the importance of awareness regarding the ongoing pandemic. Undeterred by challenges, Lollu Sabha Maaran continues to navigate the world of entertainment with a plethora of upcoming projects, showcasing his resilience, talent, and enduring presence in the dynamic realm of Tamil cinema.
