Biography:

Laya, born on October 21, 1981, is a former Indian actress and a Kuchipudi dancer renowned for her contributions primarily to Telugu cinema, along with a few appearances in Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil films. Her career in the entertainment industry began as a child actor in the movie “Bhadram Koduko” in 1992. She transitioned into a lead actress role with “Swayamvaram” in 1999.

Laya gained recognition as the runner-up in the Star 2000 contest, which aimed to discover and cast new talent for the movie “Paradesi.” She also received a Special Jury Nandi Award for her performance in that film. Notably, she won two consecutive Nandi Awards for Best Actress for her roles in “Manoharam” (2000) and “Preminchu” (2001).

Born into a Telugu Brahmin family in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on October 21, 1981, Laya attended Nirmala High School in Vijayawada. Her mother worked as a music teacher at Nirmala High School, while her father was a doctor.

During her school years, she excelled as a state-level chess player. Subsequently, she relocated to Hyderabad, where she actively participated in numerous stage performances as a classical dancer, accumulating more than 50 such appearances. Laya holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications.

In 2006, she married Dr. Sri Ganesh Gorty and settled in Los Angeles, California. The couple now has a daughter and a son.
