Lakshmy Ramakrishnan is an accomplished Indian actress and director, with a career spanning both the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. Her debut came in the Malayalam film “Chakkara Muthu” in 2006, and subsequently, she has primarily taken on supporting roles in Tamil cinema. Born and raised in a Tamil Brahmin family in Palakkad, Kerala, her life took an early turn when she became engaged at the age of 16 and married at the tender age of 18.
Before venturing into acting and filmmaking, Ramakrishnan managed an event management business in Muscat, Oman, from 1992 to 2001. Her entry into the world of cinema came through a supporting role offered by director A. K. Lohithadas. In her first Tamil film, “Pirivom Santhippom” directed by Karu Pazhaniappan in 2008, she portrayed the character of Sneha’s mother. From there, she took on various supporting roles in Tamil cinema, showcasing her versatility as an actress. A noteworthy performance was in Mysskin’s “Yuddham Sei” (2011), where she played the role of an enraged mother seeking vengeance for her daughter’s death, a role that required her to shave her head for authenticity.
Aside from her film career, Lakshmy Ramakrishnan has made appearances in television shows, including the serial “Aval” on STAR Vijay, and she also hosted a staggering 1500 episodes of the reality show “Solvathellam Unmai” on Zee Tamil. Furthermore, she has been featured in over 25 TV commercials. As a director, her work has gained critical acclaim, particularly her debut feature film “Aarohanam” (2012), which sensitively portrayed mental illness and earned her a Special Jury award at the 7th Vijay Awards. Her fourth directorial venture, “House Owner,” was selected as one of the only two Tamil films to be screened at the prestigious IFFI Indian Panorama in Goa in 2019.
