Kasper Barfoed, a Danish author and filmmaker, was born in Copenhagen in 1972. As a young actor, he appeared in the stage musical adaptation of Oliver Twist and Liv Ullmann’s directing debut, Sofie, starring Ingmar Bergman.
Afterwards, he went behind the camera to direct advertisements and second unit work on motion pictures. One of the highest earning Danish films of the decade, the children’s film My Sister’s Kids in Egypt, made its feature debut in 2004 as a result of the award-winning short The Performance. The award-winning children’s movie The Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar came next. He directed the 2008 thriller The Candidate, which starred Nikolaj Lie Kaas, and the 2013 thriller The Numbers Station, which starred Malin Akerman and John Cusack. He directed and co-wrote the drama Sommeren ’92 in 2015. He produced the television show Below the Surface in 2017.
