British film editor Joe Walker has experience in both Los Angeles and England. Previously nominated twice for Arrival and 12 Years a Slave, he won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing in 2022 for his work on Dune. He has been nominated six times for the American Cinema Editors Award for Best Edited Feature Film – Dramatic, and he won in 2016 for Arrival. He has been nominated five times for Best Editing at the BAFTA Film Awards. He won the Satellite Award for Best Editing for Sicario in 2016 and the European Film Award for Best Editor for Shame in 2012.
Walker was raised in the Ealing Borough of West London. His mother was a short-hand typist for Winston Churchill during the war, and his father, a history master, was raised Catholic. Walker received classical composition training at first. He graduated with a B.A. in music from the University of York in 1984. Walker gained experience in editing at Ealing Studios’ BBC Film Department.
