American professional b-boy, writer, and MC Jeffrey Ameen Qaiyum is also known by his stage names JQ and JAQ. Together, he and his brother GQ, a B-Boy professional, perform as the “Q Brothers.”
Qaiyum grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where she was born. With a European American mother of German ancestry and a Pakistani father, he has a mixed ethnic heritage. After relocating to New York City, Qaiyum developed his abilities as an MC and producer. He was the DJ and composer for The Bomb-itty of Errors, an off-Broadway musical comedy.
Along with his brother GQ and two other co-stars from The Bomb-itty of Errors, Dragon and Jordan, he co-starred in and composed the music for MTV’s Scratch and Burn. He composed the music for the Showtime independent film Just Another Story, which was shot in New York. The Q brothers served as associate producers, and his brother GQ wrote, directed, and performed in the film. Qaiyum has a brief appearance and co-directed the song video.
Both the solo hip-hop album Foul Mouth Poet and the rock/electro/hip-hop duo The Grommits’ album Smashing were produced by Qaiyum. After spending a large portion of 2004 on the road with The Grommits, he went on to become the lead singer of the Chicago rock group Them Vs. Them. The Feel Good Album of the Year, which combines jazz, heavy metal, R&B, and electronica, is the album that the Q Brothers are now working on together.
