G. Dhananjayan

Biography:

G. Dhananjayan (GD) is an Indian film producer, distributor, writer, and founder-director of the BOFTA Film Institute. He has written four books about Indian cinema. Sankat City (2009), Kanden Kadhalai (2009), Mugamoodi (2012), Anjaan (2014), Irudhi Suttru (2016), Kaatrin Mozhi (2018), Kabadadaari (2021), and Kodiyil Oruvan (2021) are just a few of the films he has produced in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi. He is a two-time National Film Award winner.

G. Dhananjayan graduated in 1991 with an MBA from Sydenham Institute of Management SIMSREE, University of Mumbai. In March 2019, he received his Ph.D. from Mumbai University for his thesis on the Indian film industry. Before joining Moser Baer Entertainment in 2006, he spent more than 15 years working for Asian Paints Ltd., Kansai Nerolac Paints, Saregama, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone. Dhananjayan served as the company’s chief executive officer for the film business after serving as chief operating officer for the home video business.

In April 2006, Dhananjayan was one of the two original members of Moser Baer Entertainment. In order to introduce DVDs and VCDs under the Moser Baer brand, GD obtained the copyright and marketing rights for more than 10,000 movie titles in ten languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Punjabi—in less than six months. This made it possible to compete with inexpensive illegal DVD copies. From January 2011 to February 2016, Dhananjayan worked for UTV Motion Pictures, which is currently a part of Disney-India. He had a key role in the production of multiple Southern films.
