Fowzia Fathima

Biography:

Fowzia Fathima is an Indian director, producer, cinematographer, and scholar. Fowzia is well-known for her cinematography in feature films as Uyir (2006), Mitr, My Friend (2012), and Gulumaal: The Escape (2009). She is an intuitive practitioner of cinematography across media technologies, a hands-on academic with extensive expertise in film production and teaching in modern cinema based in India, and an eye trained in the history of creative practices.

Fowzia Fathima, a graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India, was a professor and head of the cinematography department at SRFTI. She also directed the short film Infected, which was shown at the Busan International Film Festival. In 2017, Fowzia launched the “Indian Women Cinematographers Collective,” a platform that connects the majority of working professionals in the nation and serves as a peer group for experience sharing and leadership. Fowzia began her career as P.C. Sreeram’s assistant before making her independent camera debut with an all-female technical team on the Revathi-directed film Mitr, My Friend. Fowzia is the driving force behind the collective of Indian Women Cinematographers and the first independent woman cinematographer in Malayalam movie history.
