Diljit Dosanjh, an Indian singer, songwriter, actor, film producer, and television personality, is celebrated for his contributions to Punjabi music and cinema, as well as his ventures into Hindi cinema. Dosanjh embarked on his career in 2002, gaining prominence in Punjabi music with albums like Smile (2005) and Chocolate (2008), followed by The Next Level (2009) alongside Yo Yo Honey Singh. His transition into acting commenced with his debut in the Punjabi film The Lion of Punjab in 2011.
Dosanjh made his mark in Bollywood with his debut in the crime thriller Udta Punjab in 2016, earning the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut and a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Noteworthy performances followed in films like Good Newwz (2019). A recipient of numerous accolades, Dosanjh has won the PTC Award for Best Actor five times. Additionally, he has showcased his talent as a judge on the reality show Rising Star. Dosanjh’s musical endeavors have also garnered international recognition, as evidenced by his appearance on the Social 50 chart by Billboard in 2020, propelled by the release of his 11th album G.O.A.T. Dosanjh’s achievements include being the first Indian artist to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2023.
Diljit Dosanjh, born on January 6, 1984, into a Sikh family in Dosanjh Kalan village, Phillaur tehsil, Jalandhar district, Punjab, India, is the son of Balbir Singh, a former Punjab Roadways employee, and Sukhwinder Kaur, a homemaker. Raised alongside an elder sister and a younger brother, Dosanjh spent his formative years in Dosanjh Kalan before relocating to Ludhiana, Punjab, where he completed his education at Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School. His musical journey began during his school days when he started performing Kirtan at local gurdwaras. In 2013, Dosanjh initiated the Saanjh Foundation, an NGO dedicated to aiding underprivileged children and seniors.
