Dileesh Pothan

Biography:

Dileesh Philip, also known as Dileesh Pothan, is an Indian filmmaker and actor primarily active in Malayalam cinema. He made his directorial debut with the 2016 comedy-drama “Maheshinte Prathikaaram,” starring Fahadh Faasil, which won the Best Feature Film in Malayalam Award at the 64th National Film Awards. Pothan also received the Best Director Award at the 64th Filmfare Awards South for the same film.

Pothan initially worked as an associate director on the film “9 KK Road” in 2010 and later served as an assistant director under Aashiq Abu, assisting on multiple films. He made his acting debut in Aashiq Abu’s “Salt N’ Pepper” in 2011 and subsequently directed “Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum” in 2017, which was both a critical and commercial success. This film also won the Best Feature Film in Malayalam Award at the 65th National Film Awards.

His latest film, “Joji,” starring Fahadh Faasil, received highly positive reviews upon its release on Amazon Prime Video in April 2021 and won the Best International Film Award at the Swedish International Film Festival (SIFF 2021).

Pothan was born in Omalloor, Kottayam district, Kerala, and completed his education at various institutions. He married Jimsy in December 2012 and has a daughter and a son.

In addition to his directorial work, Pothan has acted in several films and ventured into film production with the establishment of the production company Working Class Hero in 2018, in partnership with Syam Pushkaran. Their first production was “Kumbalangi Nights.”
