Comagan

Biography:

Kalaimamani M. J. C. Comagan (1972/1973–6 May 2021) was a visually handicapped Indian musician, actor, philanthropist, and educator from Tamil Nadu. He was also spelled Comagan or Komagan. His role in the nationally acclaimed song Ovvoru Pookalume, which was included in the 2004 movie Autograph, made him most famous. He oversaw the recording of live stage performances by the Comaganin Raaga Priya orchestra. In 1991, Comagan established his own orchestra, Comaganin Raaga Priya, to further his career as a musician and composer. Additionally, he played minor supporting roles in movies like Kanukkulle and Sura (2010). In the 2007 movie Muthal Muthalai, he made his screen debut as a soundtrack composer. Additionally, it was the first Tamil movie in which a musician with visual impairments wrote the whole soundtrack. Comagan also played a significant role in the establishment of the first Tamil Nadu Welfare Board for the Disabled in 2008. The Government of Tamil Nadu presented him with the esteemed Kalaimamani award for 2019.
