Charuvi Agrawal, born on June 20, 1983, is an Indian artist known for her diverse talents in painting, sculpture, animation, filmmaking, and visual arts. She earned her degree in Fine Arts from the College of Art at the University of Delhi, where she was awarded a gold medal, and later pursued a master’s in computer animation from the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Canada.
Agrawal’s artistic endeavors span various mediums, including large-scale physical artworks infused with technology, animated short films, television shows, and immersive experiences such as virtual and augmented reality. Her films have been showcased at numerous film festivals, and her artwork has been exhibited at public venues as well as in private collections across India. Blending elements of Indian mythology with interactive technology, design, and art, Agrawal’s work often delves into immersive storytelling experiences.
One of her notable exhibitions, “26,000 Bells of Light,” features a 25-foot interactive bell installation, along with mythology-inspired figurines, paintings, augmented reality installations, and hand-painted Kavad. This exhibition has toured various Indian cities, captivating audiences with its transformative and interactive elements. Additionally, her “People’s Revolution Zoetrope” has found a permanent place at the Lucknow JP Museum and has been commissioned for other public installations.
In 2009, Agrawal founded Charuvi Design Labs (CDL), a design firm based in Gurugram, focusing on creating visually stunning animation content and artwork. Through CDL, Agrawal reimagines popular Indian narratives by blending traditional imagery and mythology with modern visual storytelling techniques.
Agrawal’s achievements have been recognized internationally, including being honored twice in the “Limca Books of World Records” and being lauded as one of “the emerging 10 who would transform the global artistic landscape” at the “Incredible India @60” festival in New York by Coca-Cola. She has also contributed to various publications and spoken at prestigious events such as GDG Women Techmakers @Google, Tedx @IIT Kharagpur, and the University of Edinburgh India Design Forum.
Among her notable works is the 3D animated film “Shri Hanuman Chalisa,” released in 2013, which garnered numerous awards and established her as a prominent figure in the animation and fine arts realm. Agrawal was also involved in the creation of the animated series “The Legend of Hanuman,” produced by Graphic India and released globally on Disney+ Hotstar in January 2021. This series, co-created by Agrawal, follows the extraordinary journey of Lord Hanuman and received acclaim for its portrayal of self-discovery amidst adversity.
