Benjamin Wallfisch

Biography:

British composer, conductor, and producer Benjamin Mark Lasker Wallfisch was born on August 7, 1979, and is well-known for his work on movie soundtracks. The Flash, Twisters, Alien: Romulus, It, It Chapter Two, The Invisible Man, Hidden Figures, A Cure for Wellness, Blade Runner 2049, Shazam!, and Kraven the Hunter are just a few of the more than 50 feature films he has worked on since the mid-2000s.

His efforts have been recognized with nominations for the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music and the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for Blade Runner 2049, as well as a joint nomination for Best Original Score at the 74th Golden Globe Awards for Hidden Figures with Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer. For the second year in a row, Wallfisch received a nomination for Film Composer of the Year at the 2020 World Soundtrack Awards.

Wallfisch has composed music for films that have made over $2.5 billion at the box office globally. Variety recognized his accomplishments in 2019 by featuring him in their Billion Dollar Composer series.

Elizabeth Wallfisch, an Australian Baroque violinist, and Raphael Wallfisch, a British cellist, welcomed Benjamin Mark Lasker Wallfisch into the world on August 7, 1979, in London, England. Of their three children, he is the oldest. His paternal grandparents are cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch and pianist Peter Wallfisch.

The latter survived the Holocaust and was spared from extinction as a member of the Women’s Orchestra of Auschwitz because cello players were difficult to find. They came from the German city of Breslau and were Jewish immigrants. Albert Coates, a conductor, was his great-grandfather.
