Basil Joseph, a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry, wears multiple hats as both a director and actor. His directorial journey includes three highly successful films: “Kunjiramayanam” (2015), “Godha” (2017), and “Minnal Murali” (2021), each receiving widespread acclaim both commercially and critically. Basil’s versatility extends to acting, where he has made significant contributions, featuring in numerous films.
Starting as an assistant director to Vineeth Sreenivasan in 2013’s “Thira,” Basil made his acting debut in “Up & Down: Mukalil Oralundu” (2013).
His filmmaking journey began in 2012 with the short film “CET Life” during his engineering days at the College of Engineering, Trivandrum. Basil, a scriptwriter as well, directed short films like “Oru Thundu Padam” and “Priyamvadha Katharayano” during his tenure at Infosys, Trivandrum.
Basil’s directorial career commenced with “Kunjiramayanam” in 2015, featuring the first collaboration between Malayalam actor brothers Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan. Success continued with “Godha” (2017), a sports comedy with Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi, and “Minnal Murali” (2021), the industry’s inaugural superhero film with a multi-language release.
As an actor, Basil debuted in “Up & Down: Mukalil Oralundu” and has portrayed supporting roles in around 18 Malayalam films. An alumnus of the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, Basil Joseph is not only recognized for his cinematic contributions but also for personal milestones. He married Elizabeth Samuel in 2017, and the couple welcomed a daughter named Hope Elizabeth Basil into their lives.
