Ayan Chakraborti

Biography:

Ayan Chakraborti is an Indian director, writer and filmmaker who has carved a niche for himself in the realm of contemporary Bengali films, television serials and streaming entertainments. He is most known for his unique narrative style, which is characterised by the elements of suspense and intrigue along with elaborate, psychologically complex and suspenseful murder mystery stories.

Chakraborti began his career as a scriptwriter for the big regional TV channels like Star Jalsha and Zee Bangla, working on some popular daily soaps before entering into the digital media space successfully. He is a director and writer, combining his efforts in both these aspects to give a consistent identity to his narratives by combining the element of regional family dramas with the edgy and gritty thrillers of global standards. He gained widespread acclaim with his directorial works on the OTT platform Hoichoi, presenting hit series like the family mystery Indu (2021) and the intense investigative thriller Nikhoj (2023).

Recently, he also made his mark as a director with the immensely successful crime thriller series Kaalratri (2024-2025), which was lauded for its narrative suspense. Some of his notable theatrical works are the critically acclaimed neo-noir crime films Shororipu (2016) and Shororipu 2: Jotugriho (2021). Some of his original Bengali works have also been extensively aired in India in Hindi dubbed versions, with alternate names such as Ashubh Vivaah (Kaalratri), Dead/Alive: The Search of a Mother (Nikhoj) and Indrani (Indu)
