Ashutosh Ganguly, better known as Ash King, is a British singer, songwriter, and composer. He made his playback singing debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi-6 and is a relative of the renowned Indian singer Kishore Kumar. His grandfather, Brajendra Lal Ganguly, was a freedom fighter and the first Indian classical music teacher at Rabindranath Tagore’s Shantiniketan. Ash King’s childhood was surrounded by celebrated musical artists, and his father performed with Ravi Shankar in the sixties.
In his early years, he joined a Gospel choir, influencing his musical style. Ash King’s first break in Bollywood came with A. R. Rahman in Delhi-6, recording at Rahman’s personal studio. His voice impressed Rahman, leading to a recording session in Chennai. He went on to sing for various Bollywood films, including Dum Maaro Dum and Bodyguard, and collaborated on the remix of Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance.”
Ash King is not only recognized in Bollywood but also in the UK, where he co-wrote and sang “Love Is Blind” and featured on “Look For Me” with Hard Kaur. In 2011, he performed at Glastonbury Festival for the BBC and the main stage at the BBC London Mela.
