Tottempudi Krishna, a prominent figure in Indian cinema, was a renowned film director and screenwriter primarily associated with Telugu cinema. His directorial ventures were celebrated for their revolutionary themes and included acclaimed works like “Pratighatana,” “Repati Pourulu,” and “Neti Bharatham,” which received recognition by winning Filmfare Best Film awards in the Telugu film industry. His contributions were further acknowledged through four Nandi Awards, and he played a pivotal role as the founder of Eetaram Films.
Krishna’s last directorial effort, “Repati Pourulu,” was released in 1986, shortly after his untimely passing in the same year. His legacy lives on through his son, Gopichand, who has made a name for himself as a Telugu film actor.
Born on September 1, 1950, in Kakuturivaripalem, Andhra Pradesh, Krishna completed his B.A. from CSR Sharma College in Ongole. Throughout his career, he directed a series of notable films, including “Neti Bharatam,” “Vande Maataram,” and “Devaalayam.” His film “Pratighatana” depicted the story of a woman’s battle against corruption and the criminalization of politics, a theme that garnered significant attention. In a poignant personal note, Krishna married Koteswarmma and had two sons and a daughter.
Tragically, one of his sons, Premchand, who was an aspiring director, passed away in a car accident while working on his first film. Meanwhile, his second son, Gopichand, emerged as a well-known Telugu film actor, transitioning from villain roles to becoming a hero in later films. Krishna’s daughter pursued a career in dentistry. Krishna’s own life came to a premature end on October 21, 1986, following a period of illness for which he sought treatment in the United States before ultimately passing away at the Apollo Hospital in Madras.
