Indian filmmaker, writer, and cinematographer Anil Mehta primarily works in Hindi films. The Indian Society of Cinematographers (ISC) counts him among its founding members.
In 1986, Anil attended the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune to study cinematography. As a student, Anil first collaborated with Ketan Mehta on Holi (1984) and Mirch Masala (1987). Later, he helped Barun Mukherjee on television ads.
In the short Indo-German drama film The Cloud Door (1984), he made his cinematography debut. Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), which marked Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial debut, was his first feature-length picture.
He was recognized for his efforts in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Lagaan (2001), one of the most costly Indian films at the time, with a National Film Award for Best Cinematography in 1999.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016), Rockstar (2011), Cocktail (2012), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Wake Up Sid (2009), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Veer-Zaara (2004), and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2013) are more projects he worked on.
Yash Raj Films produced Mehta’s debut feature picture, Aaja Nachle, which debuted on November 30, 2007. Madhuri Dixit (in her comeback film), Kunal Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Madhuri Dixit are the film’s stars.
