Amit Ravindernath Sharma is a director of feature films and commercials. He is well-known for having directed “Badhaai Ho,” one of Bollywood’s highest grossing movies of 2018.
Amit Sharma was born into a Punjabi Brahmin family. His father, Ravindernath Sharma, was a government worker. His mother passed away in a traffic accident in 2008; she had worked at Doordarshan’s engineering division. He has an older sister.
He went to the public senior secondary school in Lajpat Nagar-I, New Delhi. After finishing his education, he made touch with filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar via a friend of his mother. He received a junior artist position in the Limca TV commercial. He later met Pradeep Sarkar, who cast him as the lead in an advertisement that was filmed in Manali.
Pradeep and Amit collaborated for approximately six years. He and Pradeep Sarkar moved from Delhi to Mumbai in 2001. After two years of working with him, Amit established his own production firm, “Chrome Pictures,” with the help of his then-girlfriend Aleya Sen Sharma and old friend Hemant Bhandari.
He directed more than 900 commercials between 2005 and 2015, including ones for Sony, Samsung, Tata Sky, P&G, Lifebuoy, Cadbury, Honda, HUL, and Nestle. He received recognition in 2011 for directing “The Silent National Anthem,” a video that featured deaf and mute children signing “Jana Gana Mana” as part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
He made his Bollywood directing debut in 2015 with the movie “Tevar,” although it did poorly at the box office. He became incredibly well-known because to the 2018 hit movie “Badhaai Ho.”
He revealed in 2019 that the Hindi movie “Maidaan” would be released on December 11, 2020. The golden years of Indian football, 1952–1962, are the subject of the movie. Gajraj Rao, Priyamani, and Ajay Devgn play the three main characters in the movie.
