Varun Dhawan is an Indian actor recognized for his work in Hindi cinema. Regarded as one of India’s highest-paid actors, he has consistently appeared in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since 2014. Dhawan achieved notable success with a streak of 11 consecutive box-office hits from 2012 to 2018.
Dhawan commenced his career as an assistant director to Karan Johar in “My Name Is Khan” (2010) before stepping into the limelight with his acting debut in Johar’s teen drama “Student of the Year” (2012). He gained prominence through leading roles in romantic comedies like “Main Tera Hero” (2014), “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” (2014), and “Badrinath Ki Dulhania” (2017), as well as action comedies such as “Dilwale” (2015), “Dishoom” (2016), and “Judwaa 2” (2017). His versatility was evident in films like the dance drama “ABCD 2” (2015) and the drama “Sui Dhaaga” (2018).
Dhawan received acclaim for portraying diverse characters, notably as an avenger in the thriller “Badlapur” (2015) and a man grappling with loss in the drama “October” (2018). Despite facing setbacks with three critical and commercial failures, he bounced back with roles in “Jugjugg Jeeyo” and “Bhediya” (both 2022). Apart from acting, Dhawan is known for his stage performances and has co-hosted several award ceremonies.
Born on April 24, 1987, Dhawan hails from a Punjabi Hindu family, with his father David Dhawan being a renowned film director and his elder brother Rohit also a director. His uncle Anil is an actor in the industry. Prior to his acting career, Dhawan served as an assistant director on “My Name Is Khan” (2010). On January 24, 2021, he tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, fashion designer Natasha Dalal.
